Recording Sessions
Learn how to record tutoring sessions, access recordings, and understand recording policies.
Record your tutoring sessions to review later, study from, or track student progress. Recordings include video, audio, screen shares, and whiteboard content.
Recording Requirements
Before you can record:
Both Parties Must Consent
Recording requires approval from both the tutor and student
Premium Feature
Recording requires a Premium subscription ($9.99/month) or can be purchased per-session ($2.99)
Storage Limits
Free tier: 10 hours of recording storage Premium: Unlimited storage for 90 days
How to Record a Session
Starting a Recording
Click Record Button
Located in the control bar during your session
Request Consent
The other participant receives a consent request
Wait for Approval
Recording begins once they click "Allow"
Confirm Recording Started
A red "Recording" indicator appears on screen
Consent is mandatory: Starting a recording without consent violates our Terms of Service and may result in account suspension.
During Recording
While recording is active:
- Red indicator shows in top corner
- Both participants see "REC" label
- Timer shows recording duration
- All video, audio, and screen shares are captured
Stopping a Recording
To stop recording:
- Click "Stop Recording" button
- Confirm you want to stop
- Recording is saved automatically
- Processing begins (takes 5-15 minutes)
Don't end the session immediately: Wait a few seconds after clicking "Stop Recording" to ensure everything is saved properly.
What Gets Recorded
Recordings include:
Always captured:
- Video feeds of both participants
- All audio
- Whiteboard drawings and annotations
- Chat messages
Optionally captured:
- Screen shares (can be excluded in settings)
- File transfers (files themselves, not just references)
Never captured:
- Private notes you take in separate apps
- Content outside the session window
- System notifications
Accessing Your Recordings
Finding Recordings
Recordings are available in:
- Session History - Go to Dashboard > History
- Recordings Library - Settings > Recordings
- Email notification - Sent when processing completes
Processing Time
After stopping a recording:
- Processing: 5-15 minutes for typical 1-hour session
- Notification: Email when ready
- Availability: View/download for 90 days
Viewing Recordings
Click on a recording to:
- Watch online - Stream in your browser
- Download - Save MP4 file locally
- Share link - Get a private sharing link
- Transcription - View auto-generated transcript (Premium)
Recording Quality
Video Quality Options
Choose recording quality in Settings > Recordings:
Standard (720p):
- Good quality for review
- ~500 MB per hour
- Recommended for most users
High (1080p):
- Best quality
- ~1.5 GB per hour
- Better for detailed screen shares
Low (480p):
- Saves storage space
- ~250 MB per hour
- Sufficient for audio-focused sessions
Audio Quality
Audio is always recorded at high quality (256 kbps) regardless of video quality setting.

Storage Limits
Free tier:
- 10 hours of recording storage
- Oldest recordings deleted automatically when full
- Download before deletion to keep locally
Premium ($9.99/month):
- Unlimited recording storage
- Recordings kept for 90 days
- Download anytime
Add-on storage:
- Purchase additional storage: $4.99/month per 10 hours
Managing Storage
View your storage usage:
- Settings > Recordings > Storage
- See total hours used
- Delete old recordings to free space
- Download recordings you want to keep
Save important recordings: Download critical recordings to your computer to keep them permanently.

How to Download
Find the Recording
Go to Dashboard > History or Recordings Library
Click Download Icon
Located next to the recording
Choose Format
MP4 (video) or M4A (audio only)
Save to Computer
File downloads to your device
File naming: Recordings are named: Sentuent_[Date]_[Time]_[Subject].mp4
Batch Download
Download multiple recordings:
- Select checkboxes next to recordings
- Click "Download Selected"
- Recordings download as ZIP file
Sharing Recordings
Creating a Share Link
To share a recording:
Open Recording
Click on the recording in your library
Click Share
Generate a private sharing link
Set Permissions
Choose who can view (anyone with link, specific email, password-protected)
Copy Link
Share the link via email or message
Privacy: Always get permission from the other participant before sharing a recording. Sharing without consent may violate privacy laws.
Share Link Options
Access control:
- Anyone with link - Anyone who has the URL
- Email required - Viewers must enter their email
- Password protected - Requires password you set
- Expiring link - Link expires after set time
What viewers can do:
- Watch online (streaming)
- See transcript (if available)
- Cannot download (unless you enable it)
- Cannot re-share
Transcriptions (Premium Feature)
Automatic transcriptions available for Premium users:

- Word-by-word transcript
- Timestamps
- Speaker labels (Tutor vs Student)
- Searchable text
How to use transcripts:
- Review key points quickly
- Search for specific topics
- Create study notes
- Quote exact explanations
Accuracy: 85-95% depending on audio quality
Improve accuracy: Speak clearly, minimize background noise, and use a good microphone for better transcription quality.

Before Recording
Ask first: Always request permission before starting a recording
Explain the purpose: Tell the other person why you want to record and how you'll use it
Test first: Do a test recording before an important session
During Recording
Speak clearly: Good audio makes recordings more useful
Note key moments: Use chat to timestamp important parts
Stay on topic: Recording works best for focused, structured sessions
After Recording
Review soon: Watch recordings within a few days while the session is fresh
Take notes: Create written notes from the recording
Download important ones: Save critical recordings locally before they expire
Legal & Privacy Considerations
Consent Laws
Important legal notes:
- Some states/countries require all-party consent for recording
- Sentuent requires consent from both parties regardless of local law
- Recording without consent may be illegal in your jurisdiction
- You are responsible for complying with local laws
Copyright & Usage
What you can do:
- Record for personal study/review
- Share privately with consent
- Keep for your records
What you cannot do:
- Share recordings publicly without consent
- Use recordings for commercial purposes
- Upload to YouTube or social media without permission
- Distribute copyrighted teaching materials
Data Privacy
How Sentuent handles recordings:
- Encrypted during storage
- Only accessible to session participants
- Not used for training or analysis
- Automatically deleted after 90 days
- You can delete anytime
Troubleshooting
Recording Failed to Start
Reasons:
- Other party declined consent
- Storage limit reached
- Premium subscription lapsed
- Technical issue
Fix: Check consent status, storage limits, and subscription
Recording Corrupted or Missing
If recording didn't save:
- Check your internet was stable during session
- Verify you clicked "Stop Recording"
- Wait 30 minutes for processing
- Contact support if still missing
Audio/Video Out of Sync
Fix:
- Download and play in a different media player
- Report issue to support for re-encoding
Low Quality Recording
Improve quality:
- Select higher quality in settings
- Ensure good lighting
- Use a better microphone
- Stable internet connection

- Save chat - Include chat in recording
